Why should you consider golf insurance?

No matter how good your game is or how careful you are, playing golf always comes with the risk of an accident.

Golf players are held responsible if their wayward shot (or even their club) hits someone else and causes injury. Public Liability insurance through Golf Care covers you if you cause injury to another golfer or damage someone's property. While playing golf, your legal liability is protected up to £10 million.

Equipment cover means your clubs, bag, and other accessories can be replaced if they get damaged, lost, or stolen. With the average cost of a set of clubs, bag, and trolley valued at well over £1,500, it's perhaps surprising that most golfers don't have appropriate golf insurance—particularly when golf clubs are often not covered under home contents insurance.

Personal Accident insurance protects your own welfare for up to £50,000 if you get seriously injured when playing a round of golf.

Through Golf Care, you'll also receive Hole-in-One cover—meaning we'll take care of your bar bill if you happen to hole an ace in a competition!

Golf insurance starts from just £27.72 a year for our Bronze package, with Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of insurance cover also available. With this specialist protection, golfers can have true peace of mind whenever they step on the course.

What does golf insurance cover?

There are four golf insurance packages to choose from. These packages have different levels of equipment cover but include £10M Public Liability, New for Old golf clubs and equipment cover (up to 3 years old) and hole-in-one bar bill cover as standard.

Golf insurance FAQs
  • Specialist golf insurance is designed to protect you from the various risks associated with the sport. It typically includes public liability cover, which protects your liability if you accidentally injure another person or damage third-party property whilst on the course.

You can cover your golf equipment against theft, loss, or damage, and yourself against personal accidents so you receive financial compensation if you’re injured whilst playing golf.

Whether you’re a casual or avid golfer, insurance can give you peace of mind that you won’t be left out of pocket if the worst happens.

  • Even professional golfers make mistakes, so considering specialist cover could be worth it if you want protection against the worst-case scenarios, such as paying expensive legal fees if you injure another golfer or damage third-party property on the course.

  • Golf insurance is a pre-requisite for membership at many golf venues across the UK.

If this doesn’t apply to you, you may still want to consider specialist insurance to protect yourself against the risks of playing golf, such as injury to yourself or another person, or your equipment becoming lost, damaged or stolen.

You can get an online quote through Golf Care to learn more about the cover options available.

  • Traditionally, a golfer is expected to buy a round of drinks for the entire golf club if they hit a hole-in-one. It’s also customary to keep the ball you made the shot with as a token of your achievement.

Many golfers decide to buy hole-in-one insurance to cover the drinks if they are lucky enough to land a perfect shot. If you choose cover through Golf Care, we’ll pay up to £200 towards the bar bill, so long as you can provide us with a signed scorecard and itemised bar receipt.

  • Your home contents insurance policy may cover your golf clubs for theft or damage away from home, but it won’t always include protection against third-party claims. If you want the reassurance of comprehensive coverage, it could be worth considering specialist golf insurance.

  • Usually, the golfer who makes the wayward shot is liable for any damage caused to third-party property. Even shouting ‘fore!’ won’t necessarily protect you from being held financially responsible.

However, through Golf Care, you can select up to £10m public liability cover for peace of mind in these situations.
